TIps For Writing A Good Craigslist Bicycle Ad

I have seen many bad ads on Craigslist

1- Use A Descriptive Title - Users on craigslist see the list of ad titles.  If the title gets their attention and it matches what they are looking to buy, they will read your ad rather than scrolling by it.  Include the brand name and model, size and type of bike in the ad title.  For example

Cannondale R600 Road Bike - 53 cm
Bianchi Road Bike -62 cm
Gary Fisher Mt Bike - Tasajara 19 in .

2 - Include Important Measurements - Include measurements in the text of the ad.  Measure the stand-over height.  Look on the bike frame for the size.  If it is not there, measure the seat tube.  At a minimum, if it is a bike that you have used, give your height and inseam in the ad and an estimate of the height of other people that the bike could fit.  It is a waste of time to show the bike to people when the bike is too small or large for them.

3 - Include Details on Components- The deraillers, brakes and shifters usually have the manufacturer and model name.  Try to find the model number.  The majority of bikes have shimano components, but some are much better than others.  Include the number of gears in the description

4 - A Picture Is Worth 1000 Words - Include a picture if you can.  If you can't take a picture, search the internet for a picture of the model and include that picture. If you do that, make sure to say in the ad that the picture is not of the actual bike but is the same model.

5 - Be Honest. Include an honest overview of the condition.  Tell if there is rust on the frame.  State the condition of the brakes and tires.  Tell if the gears can shift smoothly or it if needs a tune-up.  Let buyers know about needed repairs.
